The Ant and The Cricket  螞蟻和蟋蟀

　　A silly young cricket, accustomed to sing

　　一個愚蠢的小蟋蟀，習(xí)慣了唱歌

　　Through the warm, sunny months of gay summer and spring,

　　在溫暖的陽光里，陽光明媚的夏天和春天，

　　Began to complain, when he found that at home

　　開始抱怨，當(dāng)他發(fā)現(xiàn)在家里的時候

　　His cupboard was empty and winter was come.

　　他的櫥柜是空的，冬天來了。

　　Not a crumb to be found

　　沒有絲毫被發(fā)現(xiàn)

　　On the snow-covered ground;

　　在白雪覆蓋的地面；

　　Not a flower could he see,

　　看不到一朵花，

　　Not a leaf on a tree.

　　沒有一片樹葉在樹上。

　　"Oh, what will become," says the cricket, "of me?”

　　“哦，會變成什么，說：”蟋蟀，”我？“

　　At last by starvation and famine made bold,

　　最后被饑餓和饑荒所包圍，

　　All dripping with wet and all trembling with cold,

　　渾身濕透，凍得發(fā)抖

　　Away he set off to a miserly ant

　　他開始可憐螞蟻

　　To see if, to keep him alive, he would grant

　　要知道，為了讓他活著，他會給予

　　Him shelter from rain.

　　他避雨的地方。

　　A mouthful of grain

　　一口糧食

　　He wished only to borrow,

　　他只是想借到糧食，

　　He'd repay it tomorrow;

　　明天還過去

　　If not helped, he must die of starvation and sorrow.

　　如果沒有幫助，他將會死于饑餓和悲傷。

　　Says the ant to the cricket: "I'm your servant and friend,

　　螞蟻說的蟋蟀：“我是你的仆人和朋友，

　　But we ants never borrow, we ants never lend.

　　但我們螞蟻從來不借錢，我們螞蟻從來不借。

　　Pray tell me, dear sir, did you lay nothing by

　　請告訴我，親愛的先生，你是什么事都沒做

　　When the weather was warm?" Said the cricket,

　　天氣暖和嗎？”蟋蟀說，

　　"Not I.

　　“不是我。

　　My heart was so light

　　我的心是如此的輕

　　That I sang day and night,

　　我唱的白天和黑夜，

　　For all nature looked gay.

　　所有的看起來都是彩色的。

　　"'You sang, sir, you say?

　　“你唱的，先生，你說呢？

　　Go then, "said the ant, "and sing winter away."

　　走吧，”螞蟻說，“唱歌的冬天。”

　　Thus ending, he hastily lifted the wicket

　　這樣的結(jié)局，他急忙把小門

　　And out of the door turned the poor little cricket.

　　走出大門把可憐的小蟋蟀帶來

　　Though this is a fable, the moral is good

　　雖然這是一個寓言，寓意很好

　　If you live without work, you must live without food.

　　如果你沒有工作，你的生活不能沒有食物。
